Introducing Tiange (Angela) Lei Director of Social Media and Public Relations

As you're well aware Greenhorn Connect has been going through a transition these last few months building out a new team of incredible young Boston talents. We are happy to announce Pardees' replacement for the Director of Social Media and Public Relations Tiange (Angela) Lei. I met Angela through a mutual connection at Angelhack Boston a few weeks ago where she expressed interest in the role. Without being asked she helped with a variety of tasks during the event and followed up with a comprehensive description of how she would contribute to the team. She's a young student that we can all expect great things from in the future. Please read the following to get to know her better before reaching out about promotion and Greenhorn Connect resource requests:
Introduce yourself...where do you go to school and what’s your major?
Hi, I’m Tiange Lei. My preferred name is Angela but you may call me either. I’m originally from Beijing/Shanghai, China and was raised in Michigan. I came to Boston two years ago to study at Wellesley College. I enjoy learning how economies and businesses function and evolve, so I settled on majoring in Economics. Additionally, I am also the treasurer for Wellesley’s Taiwanese Cultural Organization, and I research Economics outside class.
How did you find out about the startup ecosystem in Boston?
I have some friends in a variety of Boston startups who have told me about their experiences at their respective companies, which were almost all were positive. I wanted to take part in this excitement first-hand, so I began to consider joining the startup ecosystem myself.
What has your startup experience been like thus far in life?
This position is my first step into the startup culture; therefore, I do not have much to base my experience on, but so far I have enjoyed the Greenhorn Connect startup environment immensely along with meeting people from other startups! I’m excited to be a part of this team because Boston has all the resources necessary to foster a thriving startup environment. Moreover, the team is passionate and committed to helping build that vision.
Why are you interested in joining a startup during college as opposed to a more established company?
I like how indispensible each team member of a startup is and with it, how much responsibility and trust are placed on each member. Furthermore, there is a great amount of flexibility in startups that allows an individual's ability to quickly impact the community. I also like the flat organizational structure that startups generally have, in lieu of the hierarchical organizational structure found in many more established companies. I can freely connect with everyone in a startup, give input that is just as valuable as anyone else's, and learn all the details of how the business functions.
What do you hope to accomplish in your role with Greenhorn Connect?
Greenhorn Connect has already brought the Boston startup community much closer and my goal is to continue this tradition and further engage and integrate the ecosystem through communicating information and resources. Additionally, in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve come to understand how valuable college students are to the Boston startup community. I hope to make information on startups easily accessible to students, encourage more students to attend events, and, overall, increase student participation in the community.
