Background
Health 2.0's Boston Code-a-thon, is a coding competition designed around using big-data to build exciting new applications and tools to improve health care. This year, we're hosting the event in conjunction with our annual spring conference, Spring Fling: Matchpoint Boston, which is focused on getting entrepreneurial teams from "big ideas" to the negotiating table with established health care leaders.
Health 2.0 has partnered with athenahealth and MIT's H@cking Medicine to connect with some of the area's most ambitious health tech developers. Sponsored by AT&T, we're expecting students from the community as well as professional technologists and researchers to join us for this fun day of rapid prototyping and creative health-hacking!
The code-a-thon will be hosted at athenahealth's Watertown Office the weekend before Health 2.0's Spring Fling: Matchpoint Boston - a matchmaking event which will put health tech entrepreneurs up close and personal in 15 minute meetings, across a table from organizations looking to pilot, partner, or invest in their technologies. The event's theme, "big-data," is about creating and leveraging publicly available technologies which intelligently mine, archive, present and visualize massive data-sets. We are challenging developers to make sense of high volumes information in a way that will positively influence the care decisions of both providers and patients alike.
Health 2.0 will provide:
- A free shuttle from the MIT Coop and Red Line T stop at Kendall Sq. (3 Cambridge Center, Cambridge MA) to the athenahealth campus
- An introduction for those completely new to code-a-thons and time to ask Health 2.0 staff questions about how get involved.
- A series of structured ideation session to get teams formed and building.
- A number of excellent tech talks and intimate discussion groups with Health Tech Start-Up Experts who will cover cutting edge issues in big-data, health care technology, and ways to take your idea to the next level.
- Experienced judges to provide constructive feedback to each team.
- A prize package that includes a coveted opportunity to participate in Spring Fling: Matchpoint Boston and an all-expense paid trip to athenahealth's More Disruption Please conference—a conference for entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors to come together to share innovative and disruptive ideas in the HC/HIT space—in Maine this September.
- Drinks, cash prizes and the chance to network with some of Boston's most motivated developers!
If you like big-data or have an idea about how to improve health care, this event can save you months of research, networking and product development. We can help introduce you to the growing world of Health IT and coding competitions, find a team, develop a rapid prototype, collect feedback from experts in the field, and maybe even get on the radar of some of health tech's biggest players.
