Managing Wealth, Family, and Business in Today's Environment
Overview
The challenges faced by entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives in navigating today's macroeconomic climate have never been more difficult, and can be overwhelming given the growing interdependence within the global economy. This discussion will focus on successful strategies for managing personal wealth through this environment, with the understanding that most attendees are taking most of their risk in their careers. Hence, it is critical to manage personal portfolios with an eye on risk management and "risk adjusted" returns.
This will be an open, interactive discussion that is designed to introduce some of these issues, and we will seek to go into greater depth in future sessions.
Agenda

Joseph Phillips is a Senior Vice President-Wealth Management in Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Boston office, helping a select group of wealthy families throughout the United States manage their investment portfolios. A twenty four year veteran of the financial services industry, Joe brings a tremendous amount of experience to his role.
Joe began his career with Lehman Brothers in 1984 in the Boston office, and was named a Vice President in his first year. His business grew quickly, and Joe was named a Senior Vice President-Investments at the age of twenty seven. Joe was promoted in 1991 to Branch Manager, and co-managed the Lehman Brothers office in downtown San Francisco, which he did through the summer of 1994.
In August of 1994, in a return to the East Coast, Joe joined PaineWebber’s Boston office as a Senior Vice President-Investments, and worked with PaineWebber until joining Morgan Stanley in 1998. After ten years as a Senior Vice President and one of the top advisors with Morgan Stanley, Joe was asked to join Smith Barney in Boston, in order to build out the high net worth practice prior to the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney joint venture announcement. Today, Joe is well positioned to deliver the best of both platforms to his clientele, as he possesses insight into the key value drivers of both firms.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Vermont with a B.A. in Economics, Joe has worked consistently throughout his career to improve his portfolio and relationship management skills. As a Certified Financial Planner™, Joe constructs each client’s portfolio based on the unique circumstances of each situation, understanding that each client has different objectives with their assets. He is also a 2003 graduate of the Wharton School’s Investment Consultant’s Program, and is licensed for Life and Health insurance.
Joe has been married to his wife, Rebecca, for almost twenty one years, and they live in Sherborn with their two daughters.
