Ray Lewis: How to Become a Leader Others Want to Follow
"Ray Lewis is the best leader in all of team sports" - Stephen A. Smith, ESPN First Take
Ray Lewis is a force to be reaconed with on and off the field. He is able to harness an unbeievable amount of energy to inspire his men every sunday afternoon. He will play his final game on January 3rd, and in honor of his legacy I am teaching this class.
Have you ever wondered what makes the best leaders so powerful? How they are able to inspire people and lead them with conviction?
The problem with leadership in the business world is that it lacks heart. The word itself, "leadership" has lost it's true meaning. The unwavering confidence and strength of the leaders of previous generations, who led men into battle and faced real life and death decisions, has been replaced with a cheap imitation that doesn't truly inspire.
The last vestige of this true leadership is on the gridiron, where leaders are pushed to their limits physically, mentally, and emotionally. Respect is not given, it is earned. America's most popular sport is a form of ritualized war, and it produces leaders who have an ability to inspire their teammates emotionally in a way that the best Silicon Valley CEOs never could.
Ray Lewis Quotes on Leadership
"I'm only here to serve people. I don't plan this game for wins and losses, I play for for hope, faith and love."
"I fight for the man next to me. It don't matter about me, what matters about me is sacrificing for you; for the ultimate goal which is us."
"If I had no other legacy, one of the greatest warriors, one of the greatest servants, who has ever walked this earth, who has played on the football field."
