“Great you’re a visionary. Businesses are built by executioners”

Everyone loves a great innovator: someone with vision that identifies opportunities where others see problems.

They’re awesome and there’s no doubt about it. But even the best innovator won’t be successful unless he can execute.

An entrepreneur shouldn’t have to execute on everything- that’s why they build a strong team. But they need a core competency in programming, marketing, operations and/ or attaining resources (aka GSD). Having a great idea simply isn’t enough.

Fortunately Boston has great events, programs and other initiatives to turn you from the “idea guy” to a successful entrepreneur.

1.     Skillshare- Skillshare classes are offered on almost any discipline by anyone that believes they have enough knowledge to teach it. Check through their entrepreneurship courses in Boston and you’re bound to see some great names teaching.

2.     Intelligent.ly- I’ve mentioned it before but this is probably the best way to pick up new skills applicable to your company from neighboring entrepreneurs that faced the same issues.

3.     Capital Network- If you’re idea becomes too big to build on your own or have a capital intensive project the Capital Network events will help you meet and learn from investors and entrepreneurs that raised capital.

4.     IdeaMensch- Literally an event around turning your ideas into reality. Perfect right?

5.     Boston Startup School- A program brought by the Techstars team that gives young professionals an intensive training course to be successful at early stage companies on Day 1.

Visionaries are great. If you consider yourself one then pat yourself on the back and start writing down your ideas. But businesses are built by executioners and if you’re not one already you should learn to be.
